SpaceX finally got its party. A day after its Q3 report, SPCX jumped 7.79% to $159.31, the best move on our US board, and Tesla tagged along with a 3.41% gain to $386.47 a few hours before its own numbers came out. The Nasdaq Composite rose 1.05% to 26,702.86. China EV names went the other way after a rough day for battery giant CATL, and XPeng’s 5.55% slide was the worst on the board. In Tokyo, SpaceX’s results helped AI and chip stocks bounce, and the Nikkei 225 gained 0.85%.
The top take
- SpaceX (SPCX) $159.31, +7.79%. Tuesday’s after-hours pop held up in daylight. SpaceX earned 35 cents a share against the 16 cents analysts were looking for, on revenue up 161% to $14.6 billion, and its Super Intelligence unit swung to a $431 million profit on $7.6 billion in sales, per The Motley Fool. It was the company’s first profit as a public company, Reuters noted, and it helped pull the whole AI trade higher. SPCX is now up 4.70% over five sessions and 18.01% above its $135 IPO price. (Yesterday’s wrap, with the full earnings numbers, is here.)
- Tesla (TSLA) $386.47, +3.41%. A nice run-up into the report, helped along by Musk’s merger comments on the SpaceX call. Then the results landed after the bell: revenue of $28.05 billion and adjusted EPS of 48 cents against 43 cents expected (LSEG, via CNBC). The FSD numbers stole the show. Active subscriptions hit a record 1.74 million and more than 75% of new cars delivered in North America came with FSD, up from 55% in Q2, Not a Tesla App reported. Our full breakdown is here. The table shows the regular-session close. After hours the stock was little changed at first, then slipped as the evening went on. Nasdaq’s last extended-hours quote, at 6:49 p.m. ET (7:49 a.m. JST), was $376.28, down 2.64%. TSLA is up 5.26% over five sessions and still down 14.06% this year.
- ChargePoint (CHPT) $8.39, +7.15%. Second big day in a row after Tuesday’s 9.51%. That’s 26.17% in five sessions, and CHPT now has the best YTD number on our US board at +26.36%. We couldn’t find a fresh company headline behind it.
- China EV slide. XPeng fell 5.55% to $9.36, Li Auto 3.60% and NIO 2.04%, and BYD lost 3.39% to HK$71.15 (about $9.08) in Hong Kong. The trigger was CATL, whose shares fell more than 10% in Hong Kong after slower Q3 profit growth and new tax pressures, per CnEVPost. XPeng had no company-specific news and is now close to its 52-week low of $9.18, IBTimes reported.
- Elsewhere. Nvidia added 2.54% to $221.97 and Symbotic 5.14%. Mobileye fell 3.84% and Alphabet 1.62%, and GM slipped another 1.27% after Tuesday’s post-earnings drop. The S&P 500 rose 0.58% to 7,757.17, but only 10 of our 23 US names closed green (QuantumScape was flat).

Tokyo and Hong Kong closes in the table are in local currency. At Oct. 23, 2026 rates, ¥1,000 is about $6.37 and HK$100 is about $12.76.
* SpaceX listed on June 12, 2026, so its YTD figure is measured from the $135 IPO price. † BYD is shown in Hong Kong dollars (1211 HK) because its US ADR trades thinly over the counter. Hong Kong was closed on Monday, Oct 19, so BYD’s 5-day % compares with the October 13 close.
Tokyo corner
Tokyo traded Wednesday with SpaceX’s after-hours pop fresh on the screens, and it showed. The Nikkei 225 rose 545.82 points, or 0.85%, to 64,621.24 (Kabutan), its first gain in three sessions, and it was up more than 1,300 points at one point before sellers showed up near 65,000. Nikkei credited SpaceX’s results directly, with buying in Advantest, SoftBank Group and other AI names. A record September for Japanese exports, led by chip-related products, helped too.
On our list, GS Yuasa led at +2.69% to ¥4,853 (about $31), followed by reducer maker Nabtesco (+2.47%). Advantest gained 1.68% to ¥34,440 (about $220), Renesas 1.56% and SoftBank Group 1.49% to ¥4,622 (about $29), which only claws back a little of last week’s damage. Advantest is still down 14.71% over five sessions and SoftBank 13.62%. The carmakers sat it out. Not one of our seven automakers closed higher, Honda was exactly flat and Nissan fell 0.97% to ¥276.9 (about $1.76). Yaskawa was the biggest loser at −1.71%. In all, 12 of our 23 Tokyo names rose, and Tesla battery partner Panasonic (+0.70%) is now up 92.98% this year.

What to watch
- Thu, Oct 22: Tesla’s first session after earnings. The opening bell is at 9:30 a.m. ET / 6:30 a.m. PT (10:30 p.m. JST). Musk told the call the Robotaxi fleet “starts to become noticeable in Q2” of 2027 and is “probably a big deal by Q3 or Q4,” and Tesla’s Ashok Elluswamy said some customer cars should get FSD (Unsupervised) around Q2 next year (CNBC).
- Thu, Oct 22: SpaceX lockup release. Up to 1.3 billion shares become freely tradable, with another 328 million on October 24 (Stocktwits via Yahoo Finance). SPCX was $156.56 in Nasdaq’s 6:49 p.m. ET after-hours quote, down 1.73%.
- Oct 30: Tesla’s deadline to answer NHTSA’s Cybercab review (Not a Tesla App). Tokyo Electron reports earnings the same day (Yahoo! Finance Japan).
The EVX News take
Two Musk stocks up on the same day, and the bigger mover isn’t Tesla. Get used to it. Tesla gave Wall Street a beat and a record FSD quarter, and the after-hours dip looks like traders wanted more Cybercab dates than they got. Fine by us. Three of every four new Teslas in North America now leave the lot with FSD, and that is the number we’d be watching into Q4.
