Tesla’s new Roadster flew over a Semi on Thursday night. TSLA, sadly, did not fly over anything on Friday. The stock closed at $354.72 (−2.13%) as Wall Street went straight from “whoa, a flying car” to “okay, but what about Wednesday’s earnings?” Lucid had the roughest day on our board at −10.57%, and over in Tokyo, chip stocks bounced off Thursday’s AI scare. Welcome to the first EVX News Stock Watch.
The top take
- Tesla (TSLA) $354.72, −2.13%. The Roadster reveal at SpaceX’s McGregor, Texas test site was pure Musk-era theater: the car drove upside down on suction fans, hopped over Tesla’s whole lineup with cold-gas thrusters, and ran 0-60 mph in 0.81 seconds, with production slated for 2028, Not a Tesla App reports. The stock rose as much as 5.4% before the open, per Yahoo Finance, then faded with the market. The Motley Fool summed up the mood: investors “pivoted” to next week’s Q3 results. Volume was about 62 million shares, roughly 64% above the three-month average. Tesla is down 7.31% for the week and 21.12% for the year, which, if you believe in Robotaxi, Cybercab and Optimus the way we do, looks a lot like a sale sticker before a very big earnings call.
- SpaceX (SPCX) $146.03, −1.74%. Rocket stock, rocket-shaped week: −10.17% over five sessions, but still 8.17% above its $135 IPO price from June. The Roadster’s SpaceX thrusters also got the Tesla-SpaceX merger chatter going again, the Fool noted. SpaceX reports Q3 results on Tuesday.
- Lucid (LCID) $3.13, −10.57%. Morgan Stanley cut its price target from $5 to $3 and kept an underweight rating, per MarketBeat. That comes after Q3 deliveries fell 6.7% year over year to 3,806, as CNBC reported. Lucid is now down 70.39% this year.
- The rest of EV land had a red Friday too: Rivian −4.61%, XPeng −4.15%, QuantumScape −5.20%. The big picture was a risk-off tape. The S&P 500 fell about 1.1% and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.15% (Fool), still digesting this week’s hotter-than-expected US inflation data and worries about AI funding. The only greens on our US board were the old guard, Ford (+0.97%) and GM (+0.36%), plus BYD in Hong Kong (+1.10%).
- Robots had a rough week. Serve Robotics fell 7.45% on Friday and 25.75% over five sessions. Symbotic slid 9.05% for the week. We didn’t find a fresh company headline behind either move. They mostly got caught in the broader tech selloff.

Tokyo corner
Thursday was ugly in Tokyo. The Nikkei 225 lost 4.90% after reports of distressed debt at US cloud provider CoreWeave and hot US inflation numbers hammered AI and chip names, Reuters reported via Business Recorder. Advantest closed down 14.96% that day, SoftBank Group fell 9.33%, and Renesas dropped 10.00%, according to Kabutan’s closing data (The Japan Times has more on the rout).
Friday brought the bounce. The Nikkei rose 1.39% to 65,324.29 and snapped a six-session losing streak, but it still ended the week down 5.37% (Reuters via NST; Nikkei Indexes). On our board, 21 of 23 names finished green. Harmonic Drive Systems led with a 3.68% gain. It makes of the precision gears that go inside many robot joints, so Optimus fans will want it on their radar. Nissan added 3.08%, and Tokyo Electron rose 2.56%. Toyota gained 2.15% to ¥3,094. The weak spot was chips, not cars: six of the seven automakers finished the week in the green (Nissan was the exception at −0.57%), led by Toyota at +6.62%. The two reds were Nidec (−1.04%) and Panasonic (−0.15%).
The weekly damage is still showing on the chip-and-AI side: Renesas −18.72%, SoftBank Group −18.15% and Advantest −15.64%. Zoom out, though, and Tesla battery partner Panasonic is still up 95.55% this year, nearly double where it started, and Advantest is up 75.86%. Not too shabby for a “bad week.”

The EVX News take
Friday’s tape didn’t care about flying cars, and that’s fine. Markets price the next quarter, while Tesla builds for the next decade. A 1 MW drive unit, SpaceX thrusters on a road car and Optimus actuators running the Roadster’s rear wing show what the Musk ecosystem can do when the companies pull together. Wednesday is when the numbers get their turn. We’ll be here with the popcorn and the spreadsheet.
Prices: Yahoo Finance, as of the market close on Friday, October 16, 2026 (US close 4:00 p.m. ET, which is 5:00 a.m. JST on Saturday, Oct 17; Tokyo close 3:30 p.m. JST on Oct 16). Every price and percentage was cross-checked against stockanalysis.com, and Tokyo closes were spot-checked against Kabutan.
