Stock Watch: Sunrun Jumps 10%, Rivian Gets a UBS Hug, and Tesla Strolls Back Above $400

Monday was a strange split screen. Roughly seven in 10 S&P 500 stocks were up late in the day, per Yahoo Finance, chip stocks got pounded again, and the left-for-dead corners of our board finally caught a break. Sunrun jumped 10.29% to $8.25, Enphase gained 8.89% and Rivian rose 8.47% to $13.19 after a UBS upgrade. Tesla added 1.00% to $403.82, back above $400, on the day it launched unsupervised Robotaxi rides in Fort Worth. SpaceX gained 1.22% to $136.37, which puts it back over its $135 IPO price. Meanwhile Intel fell another 8.80% and AMD lost 7.52% the day before its earnings.

The top take

  • Solar wakes up. Sunrun (+10.29%), Enphase (+8.89% to $27.93) and First Solar (+4.39% to $182.05) won back part of last week’s earnings beating. There wasn’t much company news behind it. Oil prices dropped sharply and Treasury yields slipped, and that’s enough to send money back into rate-sensitive solar installers (24/7 Wall St.). The Motley Fool noted that Enphase had shed nearly 19% last week, and Northland still rates it a buy even after cutting its target (Motley Fool). A nice bounce, but Sunrun is still down 55.16% for the year.
  • Rivian (RIVN) $13.19, +8.47%. UBS upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a $17 target. Analyst Joseph Spak called the recent selloff “a buying opportunity ahead of an inflection in R2 ramp and gross margins” and expects Rivian to finish 2026 with positive automotive gross margins (CNBC). Volume was about 165% above the three-month average, per the Motley Fool. That’s two strong days in a row, and the stock is up 15.40% over five sessions.
  • Tesla (TSLA) $403.82, +1.00%. It got as high as $414.23 before the chip selling dragged everything tech-flavored back down, and it still closed $4.01 higher. The news was a good one for the Robotaxi crowd. Fort Worth became Tesla’s seventh city with fully unsupervised rides, with a 143-square-mile service area that makes it the third-largest unsupervised market after Austin and Houston (Not a Tesla App; our story is here). Musk also said the next earnings call will have video (Not a Tesla App). Finally. After hours it was $404.05 (+0.06%) on CNBC at 5:49 p.m. ET, which is 7:49 a.m. JST Tuesday.
  • SpaceX (SPCX) $136.37, +1.22%. Back over the $135 IPO price, now up 1.01% from it. It was up about 4% at one point after a report that SpaceX is in talks to buy EchoStar’s Boost Mobile or use its network (Yahoo Finance; our take on the talks is here). No deal has been confirmed. Yahoo Finance pointed out SpaceX was one of the few AI-adjacent names moving higher while chips sank (Yahoo Finance). After hours: $137.15 (+0.57%).
  • The chip hangover. Intel (not on our board) slid 8.80% to $59.97 after Friday’s 28.58% crash, and AMD lost 7.52% to $466.84 ahead of Tuesday’s report. The PHLX Semiconductor Index fell 3.37% to 10,328.33. Nvidia held up better than most, down 1.26% to $202.06. Mobileye dropped 5.20% to $5.65 and is now down 45.88% for the year, the worst day on our US board.
  • China EVs and the rest. XPeng gained 5.86% to $9.57 after record October deliveries of 50,237, with overseas deliveries up 166% from a year ago to 13,326 (Benzinga). BYD rose 3.22% in Hong Kong to HK$70.45 and Li Auto 1.36%, while NIO slipped 0.62%. GM (+2.91% to $89.94) is up 17.86% over five sessions, and ChargePoint (+3.56%) is up 19.90%. Altogether 14 of our 23 US names closed green.
  • The indexes. The Nasdaq Composite fell 1.07% to 25,164.32 and the S&P 500 slipped 0.51% to 7,541.40, while the Dow gained 213.67 points (0.41%) to 51,983.98 (closing levels per CNBC and Yahoo Finance).

Tokyo corner

Tokyo traded Monday with Friday’s Wall Street chip rout fresh in mind. The Nikkei 225 slipped 208.25 points, or 0.33%, to 63,081.86, and the broader TOPIX fell 0.88% to 3,930.28, its lowest close since July (Nikkei, Kabutan). Memory maker Kioxia (not on our board) sank 15.78% on a soft outlook and did most of the damage.

Two names on our list had a very good day thanks to earnings. Tokyo Electron jumped 5.16% to ¥10,005 (about $63), back over ¥10,000, after forecasting a 50% rise in annual net profit. Panasonic Holdings, Tesla’s battery partner, gained 5.41% to ¥3,740 (about $24) after raising its full-year operating profit forecast by 20% to ¥710 billion, helped by AI-related demand (Reuters via Arab News). That takes Panasonic to +84.83% for the year, the best on our Tokyo board, just ahead of Advantest (+2.61% to ¥35,770, about $226) at +82.17%.

The rest was a slow leak. Keyence fell 3.99% to ¥74,890 (about $474), Mitsubishi Motors lost 2.36%, Nidec 2.17% and SoftBank Group 1.58% to ¥4,410 (about $28). Toyota eased 0.62% to ¥3,051 (about $19), while Honda (+0.70%) and Aisin (+1.06%) edged up. In total, 9 of 23 Tokyo names finished green.

Tokyo closing prices for Monday, November 2, 2026 (3:30 p.m. JST), the latest completed Tokyo session. 5-day % compares with the October 26 close, and YTD % compares with the December 30, 2025 close, the last trading day of 2025 in Tokyo. Dollar conversions in the text use ¥158 per dollar.

What to watch

  • Tue, Nov 3: Tokyo is shut for Culture Day, so there’s no Tokyo session today and the Japan names next trade on Wednesday, Nov 4. Hong Kong and Wall Street are open.
  • Tue, Nov 3: AMD reports after the US close. The call is at 5:00 p.m. ET / 2:00 p.m. PT (Wednesday, Nov 4 at 7:00 a.m. JST) (AMD). After two ugly days for chips, this one could set the mood for the whole sector.
  • Thu, Nov 5: Toyota’s first-half results at 1:55 p.m. JST (Wednesday, Nov 4 at 11:55 p.m. ET / 8:55 p.m. PT) (Jiji via Yahoo Japan).
  • Later this month: Cybercab in Dallas. Tesla’s purpose-built robotaxi is set to start rides in Dallas, right next door to the new Fort Worth zone (Not a Tesla App).

The EVX Take

Chips shed more than $300 billion in a single session by Yahoo Finance’s count, and Tesla still finished green, back above $400, on a day it added a seventh driverless city. That’s a stock being priced on Robotaxi, not on PC demand. And credit where it’s due to Rivian. Two big up days, an upgrade, and an R2 that people actually want. More good EVs on the road makes the whole category look less like a niche. Next up is AMD on Tuesday night, and the chip crowd needs a win more than anyone.

Prices: Yahoo Finance, cross-checked against CNBC quotes for every US-listed ticker (closes and day % matched; SolarEdge uses Nasdaq’s official close) and against stockanalysis.com for Tokyo and BYD (all matched). Tokyo closes were also spot-checked against Kabutan for the Nikkei, Panasonic, Tokyo Electron, Advantest, Keyence, Mitsubishi Motors, Nidec, SoftBank Group, Toyota and Honda. After-hours quotes: CNBC. Index levels: CNBC and Yahoo Finance (US), Kabutan and Nikkei (Tokyo). As of market close on Monday, November 2, 2026 (US close 4:00 p.m. ET, which is 6:00 a.m. JST on Tuesday, Nov 3; Tokyo and Hong Kong closes on Nov 2).
