Stock Watch: Lucid Pops 11.6%, the Dow Soars 3%, and Tesla and SpaceX Sit Out the Party

Wall Street threw a party on Wednesday and Lucid was the loudest guest, jumping 11.59% to $3.37. The Dow ripped 3.03% higher, QuantumScape added 7.52%, Rivian rose 5.79% and Uber gained 4.91% after its earnings. Tesla and SpaceX skipped the party: Tesla fell 3.34% to $385.19 and SpaceX 3.81% to $135.92. SolarEdge was the worst name on our US board, down 8.70% on a soft outlook. In Tokyo the chip and robot names got knocked around, with Panasonic down 6.39% and the Nikkei off 1.42%.

The top take

  • Lucid (LCID) $3.37, +11.59%. The best day on our board, and there wasn’t any company news behind it. 24/7 Wall St. tied it to a broad rush into risk on a day when everything small and volatile flew, and pointed out that Lucid delivered 3,806 vehicles in the third quarter, fewer than a year earlier (24/7 Wall St.). Even after the pop it’s down 1.17% over five sessions and 68.12% for the year. It reports next week, which is where the real test is.
  • Rivian (RIVN) $14.06, +5.79%. Still riding last week’s earnings, when the R2 became its best-selling model by volume (24/7 Wall St.). It’s up 20.48% in five sessions. GM (+4.63% to $92.43) and Ford (+2.92% to $12.67) came along for the ride, and GM is now up 13.66% for the year.
  • Tesla (TSLA) $385.19, −3.34%. A red Tesla on a green day always looks odd, and there was no bad Tesla news to explain it. The actual news was about building more. Drone pilot Joe Tegtmeyer, who has filmed Giga Texas since construction began, says Tesla is adding a night shift there and doubling production, and his footage showed the outbound lots lined with gold Cybercabs. Tesla hasn’t confirmed it (Not a Tesla App). Tesla also has more than 300 Cybercabs running in Austin and wants Cybercab rides in Dallas this month. The stock is down 4.71% over five sessions and 14.35% for the year. After hours CNBC had it at $384.68 (−0.13%) at 5:51 p.m. ET (7:51 a.m. JST Thursday).
  • SpaceX (SPCX) $135.92, −3.81%. Gave back Tuesday’s gain and then some, and now sits just 0.68% above its $135 IPO price. The day’s real SpaceX news was big, though: Qualcomm said SpaceX picked its Dragonwing chips to run the base stations for Starlink Mobile’s nationwide 5G network, with tens of thousands of US cell sites starting in 2027 (Not a Tesla App; our story is here). That’s SpaceX building its own phone network on the ground, not just renting one. After hours: $134.88 (−0.76%).
  • SolarEdge (SEDG) $30.02, −8.70%. It beat on profit (adjusted EPS of $0.29 against a $0.03 estimate) but guided fourth-quarter revenue to $245 million to $275 million, well under the roughly $317.7 million analysts wanted, and said it’s cutting costs on softer demand (Investing.com, SolarEdge). The rest of solar shrugged it off. First Solar gained 4.63% to $194.51, Enphase 3.71% to $31.55 and Sunrun 1.27% to $8.79. Then Sunrun reported after the bell, with EPS of $0.56 against a $0.32 estimate and revenue of $1.1 billion against $806 million expected (Investing.com), and CNBC had it at $9.64 (+9.67%) after hours.
  • Uber (UBER) $69.87, +4.91%. Third-quarter revenue of $14.77 billion and adjusted EPS of $0.88 both beat, and gross bookings grew 20%. Uber also wants its driverless fleet at 700 vehicles by year-end and more than 2,000 in 2027 (MarketBeat). Tesla already has more than 300 Cybercabs in Austin alone. Just saying.
  • Everyone else. Albemarle rose 5.30% to $94.97, ChargePoint 5.75% to $11.41 (now up 71.84% for the year) and Alphabet 3.18% to $288.93. The chip trade went the other way: the PHLX Semiconductor Index fell 3.13% to 10,268.65, Nvidia lost 3.17% to $200.13 and Mobileye 4.47% to $5.34. BYD barely moved in Hong Kong, down 0.07% to HK$72.30. In all, 16 of our 23 US names closed green.
  • The indexes. The Dow jumped 1,569.40 points (3.03%) to 53,356.12, the S&P 500 rose 1.58% to 7,688.62 and the Nasdaq Composite added 1.44% to 25,736.51 (CNBC and Yahoo Finance).

Tokyo corner

Tokyo came back from the Culture Day break in a bad mood. The Nikkei 225 fell 893.23 points (1.42%) to 62,188.63 after dipping as low as 60,030.10 during the day, and TOPIX lost 0.89% to 3,895.38 (Kabutan). Only 5 of our 23 Tokyo names closed higher.

Closing prices for Wednesday, November 4, 2026 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Day % is the change from Monday’s close (Nov 3 was a holiday), 5-day % compares with the October 27 close, and YTD % compares with the December 30, 2025 close. At ¥158.35 per dollar, ¥1,000 is about $6.32. Spot-checked against Kabutan: Toyota, Panasonic, Harmonic Drive, Nabtesco, Tokyo Electron, Advantest, SoftBank Group, Keyence and Yaskawa all matched.

Panasonic was the big loser, down 6.39% to ¥3,501 (about $22), handing back all of Monday’s 5.41% jump. It traded as low as ¥3,312 (about $21) during the day. Nothing changed in the business overnight. Last week it raised its full-year net profit forecast to ¥540 billion (about $3.4 billion) on AI data center demand for its storage systems and parts, and lifted its dividend to ¥70 (about 44 cents) (Zaikei Shimbun). This was the AI trade getting sold, and Panasonic is now an AI stock whether it likes it or not. It’s still up 73.02% for the year.

The rest of the damage was in the same bucket. Harmonic Drive Systems fell 5.25% to ¥4,931 (about $31), Tokyo Electron 3.42% to ¥9,663 (about $61), Advantest 3.35% to ¥34,570 (about $218) and SoftBank Group 3.20% to ¥4,269 (about $27). Yaskawa lost 1.99% and Nabtesco 2.71%. The carmakers mostly sat still ahead of Toyota’s results. Toyota slipped 0.75% to ¥3,028 (about $19) while Nissan (+0.88%), Subaru (+0.69%) and Keyence (+0.84%) were among the few green names.

What to watch

  • Thu, Nov 5: Toyota’s first-half results at 1:55 p.m. JST (Wednesday, Nov 4 at 11:55 p.m. ET / 8:55 p.m. PT) (Jiji via Yahoo Japan).
  • Thu, Nov 5: Sunrun’s after-hours pop meets the opening bell at 9:30 a.m. ET / 6:30 a.m. PT (11:30 p.m. JST). After SolarEdge’s guide, it’s the other half of the solar story.
  • Next week: Lucid’s third-quarter report. Wednesday’s 11.59% jump came with no news. The numbers will have to do the talking (24/7 Wall St.).
  • Dec 3: Tesla’s 2026 shareholder meeting, where we might hear more about the Giga Texas night shift (Not a Tesla App).

The EVX Take

Tesla had the kind of news day you’d want (reports of a doubled Giga Texas, lots full of Cybercabs) and the kind of stock day you wouldn’t. SpaceX signed up Qualcomm to build a phone network and still drifted back toward its IPO price. We know which side of that gap we’d rather be on. Meanwhile Lucid’s 11.59% came on zero news, which is fun until the earnings call. We’ll take the Cybercabs.

Prices: Yahoo Finance, cross-checked against CNBC quotes for every US-listed ticker (closes and day % matched), against stockanalysis.com for BYD and all 23 Tokyo names (matched), and against Kabutan for nine Tokyo names. stockanalysis.com was still showing stale intraday snapshots for 18 US tickers at publish time, so CNBC was the second source for the US board. After-hours quotes and USD/JPY: CNBC. Index levels: CNBC and Yahoo Finance; Nikkei and TOPIX: Kabutan. As of market close on Wednesday, November 4, 2026 (US close 4:00 p.m. ET, which is 6:00 a.m. JST on Thursday, Nov 5; Tokyo close 3:30 p.m. JST on Nov 4; Hong Kong close on Nov 4).
